Chicago-based painter and sculptor, Christina Villa, creates waterscape acrylic paintings. Inspired by the nature of water, Lake Michigan, the iconic Chicago skyline, and vibrant scenes of urban life, Villa channels her love of light and color through her paint brush. Graduating with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011, Villa's journey as an artist blossomed through a dual passion of paint and clay. While developing her painting practice, she launched her pottery line, Two Squares, in 2014. She was a FIELD/WORK Resident at the Chicago Artist Coalition in 2017, established Christina M. Villa Studio in Wicker Park in 2020, and was a Resident at The Digs in 2021. Her work has been part of recent exhibitions: Vibrant Chicago II, April 2024, Transformations, June 2024 and lives in both private and corporate collections. Beyond the surface of the canvas, Villa is deeply committed to sharing her passion through teaching students from kindergarten to eighth grade, as well as adult painting and drawing workshops. As a hobby, she does statuary restoration for liturgical sculptures and has been commissioned by University of Illinois Chicago’s John Paul II Newman Center for several projects.
"I am a waterscape painter and sculptor. Using my hands and a palette knife, each wave portrait begins with a textured layer of gypsum, outlining the wave’s three-dimensional attributes. Favoring the quick-drying nature of acrylic and latex paints, I continue using the palette knife and brushwork to capture the dynamic dance of light and color." ~ Christina Villa
